Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally back in the spotlight. On May 6, Rockstar Games released the highly anticipated Trailer 2, giving fans a closer look at the world, characters, and plot of GTA 6—a full year before its new release date of May 26, 2026.
While the first trailer, published in December 2023, introduced us to the sun-soaked insanity of Leonida (GTA's version of Florida), this new clip provides our most in-depth look yet at the people who live, fight, hustle, and survive in Rockstar's upcoming open-world epic.
A Love Story Fueled By Violence in GTA 6
Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos are the central characters in GTA 6, two romantic partners driven by desperation and ambition. According to Rockstar, their trip begins with what appears to be a "easy score," but when things go horribly wrong, they are thrust into a high-stakes criminal conspiracy spanning the entire state of Leonida.
Their bond—and ability to navigate this fatal world together—will be critical to their survival.
Jason and Lucia are both playable characters, and players will be able to flip between them, similar to GTA 5's character system. Their dynamic promises to combine chaotic action with emotional depth in a way that Rockstar has never attempted before.
Meet the Main Characters of GTA 6
Rockstar has officially announced nine main characters, each with their own unique quirks, dreams, and dark secrets. True to the GTA culture, these personalities range from dangerous to totally odd:
Jason Duval
Jason, who was raised by scammers and criminals, sought to live a straight life by joining the Army, but he swiftly returned to crime. While working with smugglers in the Keys, he meets Lucia. It's unclear if she'll be his escape or his downfall.
Lucia Caminos
Lucia was taught to fight from a young age, and her life has always been difficult. A prison sentence nearly broke her—but now she's free, and she has a plan. All she wants is a wonderful life, and she's willing to break any rule to have it.
Cal Hampton
Jason's friend is a conspiracy-obsessed internet lurker. Cal prefers to sit at home with a beer, listen in on Coast Guard chatter, and rant about hidden intentions. He's slightly paranoid—but in this world, that might just keep you alive.
Boobie Ike
A local legend and businessman who built a real estate empire, strip club, and recording studio after starting as a street hustler. Smooth, bold, and always in control—until it's time to settle the score.
Dre’Quan Priest
Dre'Quan, an ambitious music mogul and former dealer, is climbing the Vice City music scene with his label Only Raw Records. He has already signed the popular rap duo Real Dimez, and he is ready to dominate.
Real Dimez (Bae Luxe and Roxy)
Two street-savvy females converted petty hustling into internet celebrity with bold rap tracks and even bolder social media moves. Now that they had a record deal, what could possibly go wrong?
Raul Bautista
A charismatic and daring seasoned bank robber. Raul lives for the thrill and isn't unwilling to up the prior, even when things go wrong. His experience makes him important, but his recklessness makes him dangerous.
Brian Heder
An old-school smuggler who looks a beach bum but acts like a shark. Still trafficking drugs via his boatyard, he allows Jason to stay at one of his houses in exchange for suspicious favors.
Familiar Voices, Mysterious Cast
Rockstar has yet revealed the official voice cast, but fans are already speculating. One name in particular stands out: Brian Heder sounds remarkably similar to veteran character actor Stephen Root, best known for his roles in Barry and Veep. While unverified, it's an intriguing option for fans who enjoy identifying voice talent in Rockstar's games.
A Living, Breathing Florida: Leonida Style in GTA 6
Beyond the personalities, Rockstar has revealed more about the various and explosive areas that players will visit. The game takes place in Leonida, a fictional state that is clearly inspired by Florida, complete with tropical islands, natural wetlands, and crime-ridden towns.
Vice City - The game's lively heart, complete with neon lights, luxury, chaos, and corruption.
Leonida Keys - are laid-back islands with covert criminal activities.
Grassrivers - Dangerous swamplands abounding with gators, secrets, and possibly worse.
Port Gellhorn - A long-forgotten holiday destination with a nasty underside.
Ambrosia - is a grimy manufacturing town driven by sugar, biker gangs, and backdoor transactions.
Mount Kalaga - is a mountainous wilderness in which outlaws, radicals, and survivalists roam freely.
Each of these locations features unique environment, quests, and personalities, making GTA 6 the most diverse and detailed universe Rockstar has ever developed.
The release of GTA 6 Trailer 2 also announced the game's new release date of May 26, 2026. Originally scheduled for late 2025, Rockstar revealed the delay just days before the trailer was released. The game will be released first for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a PC version probably following later.
Despite the delay, excitement is at an all-time peak. Trailer 2 has already set the internet on fire, and with Rockstar drip-feeding additional information, fans are now getting a sense of the chaos, humor, and drama that awaits them in Grand Theft Auto 6.
