Holy Bulwark Otto Boss Fight Guide in Lords of the Fallen

Holy Bulwark Otto Boss Fight Guide in Lords of the Fallen

Holy Bulwark Otto in Lords of the Fallen serves as your introduction to the game's difficult boss fights. This guide will take you step-by-step through the fight, explaining everything from Otto's attacks to how to win. Even at the start of your quest, this boss encounter is brutal, just like in the Souls-Borne games.

Blocking and Parrying Tutorial

It's important to understand the blocking and parrying fundamentals of the game before starting a battle. When you successfully block an attack, your health metre will show a portion in grey, referred to as your "Withered health." You can regain this Withered health if you successfully land an attack without being injured. However, a single hit will completely eliminate your grey health.

On the other side, dodging an attack causes your Withered health bar to decrease and the enemy's posture to change. Look for the circular signal that shows while targeting an enemy to determine their position. With each parry that is effective, this circle falls from its original full state. The enemy can be knocked down with a kick, a strong blow, or another parry once the opponent has been sufficiently weakened. When the posture circle turns red, it's time for a Grievous Strike, which can be launched by hitting the attack button to deal heavy damage.

How to Beat Holy Bulwark Otto Boss

Understanding Otto's Moves

Holy Bulwark Otto moves and attacks rather slowly because he is using a two-handed heavy weapon. He usually uses his preferred attack, the overhead slam. He recovers quickly from this strike, which gives you time to launch counter-attacks.

Side-swings

Otto uses side-swing assaults as well. These can be easily avoided, but they give great opportunity to practise block and parry techniques so you can learn the timing.

Bleed Damage

Otto's attacks cause bleed damage which is displayed by a bar above your health bar. The blood bar increases with each strike. If it totally fills, you'll start bleeding out and your health will keep reducing until you heal.

Mace Spin

Otto sometimes spins his mace around his head before to a strong slam and a light lunge. Avoid or deflect these blows, then strike him as soon as he finishes the action. You'll have the chance to knock him out because of this.

Lethal Grab

Otto makes a particularly risky move when he lifts his left hand and strikes at you. If you get caught, he'll grab you by the throat and use his mace to send you flying while doing serious damage to your health bar.

The Lightreaper's Arrival

The Lightreaper will take control of the battle when you beat Holy Bulwark Otto. Even while The Lightreaper can still be fought and defeated, it is extremely challenging. The goal is for you to fall victim to him in your first playthrough. Even if you succeed in defeating him, a cutscene that improves the story will still be shown.
