Mortal Kombat 1 gameplay experience will be improved with the addition of cross-play support in February 2024, according to NetherRealm Studios.
In a recent release, community manager Tyler Lansdown expressed excitement about the planned cross-play feature, saying,
“Cross-play is coming in February between PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, so we’re very excited about that.”
NetherRealm Studios first stated their plan to include cross-play functionality for Mortal Kombat 1 in a post-launch update back in May, when the game was first announced. This change is expected to improve the multiplayer experience by allowing players from different platforms to fight together.
A new Wi-Fi filter will also be added, allowing players to make educated decisions about accepting or denying matches based on the quality of their opponent's internet connection.
In the future, Mortal Kombat 1 fans may expect more engaging material, as the game will receive story DLC. The excitement was heightened by a recent tease from the game's director, who hinted at the development of a sequel with a longer storyline.
"Well, just like we did with Mortal Kombat 11, we're going to release a second part with more story," series co-creator Ed Boon said during a discussion at the CCXP23 event in Brazil. And then there's a big surprise, so we'll be supporting the game for even longer than we did with Mortal Kombat 11. It's going to be a lot of fun." Players may expect a long and interesting trip within the Mortal Kombat universe.
