Naughty Dog Confirms New The Last of Us Games as Intergalactic Reveal Moves to 2027
Naughty Dog has shared a major update on its upcoming projects, confirming that two new games set in The Last of Us universe are now in early development. The studio also revealed that fans will have to wait until 2027 for a full presentation of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Neil Druckmann confirmed the The Last of Us projects during The Last of Us Day celebrations on September 28. While details are still limited, he said Naughty Dog is exploring new stories that will expand the franchise beyond The Last of Us Part I and Part II.
The studio has not revealed whether these projects will continue the stories of Ellie and Abby or introduce new characters. Release dates and platforms have also not been announced.
Meanwhile, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet remains Naughty Dog's biggest upcoming project. The sci-fi action game was first announced at The Game Awards in December 2024, but the studio has shared very little since then.
Naughty Dog has now confirmed that there will be no major update on Intergalactic for the rest of 2026. A full reveal is planned for 2027.
“The team is heads down on what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog’s most ambitious game yet,” Neil Druckmann said. He added that the studio needs “to cook for just a little bit longer” before showing Intergalactic in full.
The game follows Jordan A. Mun, a bounty hunter who becomes stranded on Sempiria, a mysterious planet that has been cut off from the outside universe for hundreds of years. Tati Gabrielle voices and portrays Jordan, while Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are creating the game's music.
Naughty Dog is continuing to work on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and says the team needs more time before it is ready to show the game in detail. For now, fans will have to wait for more information, with two new The Last of Us projects in development and a full Intergalactic reveal planned for 2027.
