Nintendo has officially revealed one of its most anticipated upcoming titles, Rhythm Heaven Groove which will be released on July 2 for the Nintendo Switch. The announcement has sparked excitement among both longtime fans and newcomers, as it marks the return of the quirky rhythm franchise after more than ten years.

The announcement was made via Nintendo's official channels, along with a short gameplay clip of one of the game's entertaining and fast-paced mini-games. The game will be available exclusively for the original Switch, but it will also be playable on newer systems via backward compatibility.

Rhythm Heaven Groove is the fifth game in the series, and it includes a brand-new set of rhythm-based challenges. To complete various tasks, players must follow musical beats and react quickly. The game is known for its simple controls and increasingly difficult gameplay.

Tsunku, a famous Japanese artist created the game's music which is one of its key highlights. He is known for writing catchy and fun songs, and his return means players can expect an enjoyable soundtrack that complements the gameplay flawlessly. Nintendo has also worked to improve the game's performance, particularly by lowering audio and input lag, which is critical for a rhythm game where timing is everything.

The Rhythm Heaven series debuted in Japan on the Game Boy Advance in 2006, later expanding to platforms such as the Nintendo DS, Wii, and Nintendo 3DS. Each version added something new to the gameplay. The release of this new game in 2026 is also significant because it marks the series' 20th anniversary, making its return even more meaningful for fans.

Rhythm Heaven Groove will be available digitally on the Nintendo eShop for $39.99 / £33.99. The game's simple gameplay and enjoyable rhythm-based challenges are likely to appeal to both casual and longtime series fans. With its vibrant visuals, quirky mini-games, and catchy music, it's shaping up to be one of Nintendo's most anticipated releases this summer. Whether you've played previous games or are trying it for the first time, it promises a fun, beat-driven experience when it comes out on July 2.
