Lara Croft's long-awaited return will take slightly longer than expected. During the most recent PlayStation State of Play showcase, Amazon Game Studios, Crystal Dynamics, and Flying Wild Hog unveiled a brand-new trailer for Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, confirming that the game has been delayed from its original 2026 release date to February 12, 2027.

Despite the delay, the latest footage provided fans with an exciting glimpse into what appears to be one of the most ambitious Tomb Raider projects ever created. Legacy of Atlantis is a complete reimagining of the original Tomb Raider adventure, rebuilt from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5 technology to deliver modern visuals, enhanced gameplay systems, and expanded cinematic storytelling.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Reimagines Lara Croft’s Original Journey

Rather than simply remastering the classic 1996 experience, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis completely reimagines it for modern audiences. Players will once again join Lara Croft on an worldwide mission to discover the legendary secrets of Atlantis, visiting iconic locations while battling deadly traps, ancient mysteries, and dangerous creatures.

The new trailer featured several memorable moments from the original game, including the iconic Tyrannosaurus Rex encounter, which is still one of the most famous scenes in gaming history. Fans also got their first detailed look at the game's redesigned Greece region, which now boasts breathtaking environments, advanced lighting effects, and cinematic presentation made possible by Unreal Engine 5.

The gameplay footage shows how dramatically the classic adventure has been transformed. Ancient ruins, sprawling temples, and underground tombs have all been significantly upgraded, resulting in a much more immersive experience than the blocky PlayStation-era original.

According to the developers, the remake will retain the atmosphere and spirit that made the original Tomb Raider a genre-defining success while introducing modern gameplay mechanics, updated puzzles, improved exploration systems, and new surprises that were not possible in the original release.

Nintendo Switch 2 Version Confirmed

Along with the release date announcement, the developers confirmed that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be available on Nintendo's upcoming Switch 2 platform. The Switch 2 version will be released on February 12, 2027, alongside the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions, providing players with multiple ways to experience Lara Croft's latest adventure.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Editions and Pre-order Bonuses

Players can already pre-order the game in multiple editions.

While the delay from 2026 to February 2027 may disappoint some fans, the additional development time should allow the team to deliver a more polished experience. Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, with upgraded visuals, modern gameplay features, and a new take on Lara Croft's original adventure, is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated action-adventure games of 2027.
