Sony has officially announced Until Dawn 2, the long-awaited return of one of PlayStation's most popular horror franchises. The sequel, revealed during the most recent PlayStation State of Play showcase, features a new cast of characters, a brand-new setting, and another terrifying choice-driven adventure that will be available exclusively on PlayStation 5 in 2027.
More than a decade after the original Until Dawn became a fan-favorite horror experience, Sony is taking the series in a new direction while retaining the suspense, tension, and life-or-death decisions that made the first game unforgettable. Until Dawn 2 New Story Turns Fake Ghost Hunts Into Real Terror
Unlike the original game, Until Dawn 2 has a completely standalone story. Players will follow the crew of Dead True, a massively popular paranormal investigation channel known for staging bogus ghost encounters to entertain its viewers. However, their most recent assignment takes them to a remote tropical island, where they quickly learn that supernatural threats are all too real.
What starts out as an opportunity to create viral content quickly turns into a desperate battle for survival. As terrifying events unfold across the island, players must make difficult decisions about who lives and who dies before sunrise.
Sony promises that every decision will have significant consequences, building on the franchise's signature branching narrative system in which player actions impact the story's outcome.
Famous Faces Join the Cast
The sequel follows in the footsteps of the original Until Dawn, with a cast brought to life through advanced motion-capture performances. Among the most recognizable names are Dacre Montgomery, best known for his role in Stranger Things, and Neil Newbon, who received widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3.
Fans of the original game will be pleased to know that the mysterious psychiatrist Dr. Hill has returned, with actor Peter Stormare reprising his role. His appearance in the reveal trailer suggests that he will once again play an important role in the unfolding psychological horror.
Firesprite Takes Over Development of Until Dawn 2
Until Dawn 2 development has been passed over from Supermassive Games to PlayStation-owned studio Firesprite, which previously worked on Horizon Call of the Mountain. According to the developers, the goal is to keep the spirit of the original while expanding the series with new characters, locations, and modern horror storytelling techniques.
The studio has stated that maintaining the franchise's core elements such as character drama, impactful choices, and unforgettable horror moments has been a top priority throughout development.
Until Dawn 2 Release Window and Platform Details
At the moment, Sony has only confirmed a 2027 release date for Until Dawn 2, so fans will have a long wait ahead. The PlayStation 5 is currently the only announced platform, with no confirmation of a PC version.
